Frequently Asked Questions
What is Homoeopathy?
Homoeopathy is a method of treatment in which such a medicine in minimum dose is prescribed to the patient which has a ability to produce similar illness on healthy human beings when tried upon them during Pathogenetic Trial.
Whether a disease gets aggravated during early part of the treatment?
No, it is not a fact. No treatment is ever evolved to increase the suffering, rather Hahnemann, the founder and architect of Homoeopathy has instructed all to stick to gentle cure in the 2nd paragraph of his epoch making publication, i.e. Organon of medicine. However some symptom or disease is aggraved owing to some other causes like because of previous palliation/ suppression, discontinuation of previous allopathic treatment, other changes in diet and lifestyle etc during the course of homoeopathic treatment and such aggravated conditions are ascribed to homoeopathy which is not true.
Do homoeopathy medicines acts slowly?
No, Homoeopathy never acts slowly; rather it acts speedier as the medicines are brought to a finer and dynamic state so that it will act quicker. More ever it acts directly upon the life force in a dynamic form which takes no time for its propagation. People have this idea because that, they expect cure in a minimum possible time. As homoeopathy affords a long lasting relief or permanent cure, so it takes more time for such. Butinitiation of action or relief in symptoms never take more time. Relief in existing symptoms and permanent cure are not same thing.
What is the basic principle of Homoeopathy?
Homoeopathic practice is based on different principles derived from nature which make this practice safer, natural and patient friendly. Some of such principles are,
Similar relationship between medicine and disease: Every medicine produces certain changes upon the organism who takes it and in case of homoeopathy, the ingested medicine produces similar (artificial) changes to that of natural disease. So, likes are treated by likes. A replica of natural disease is produced by the medicinal agent which removes the natural disease.
Minimum dose is the choice: In homoeopathy, minimum possible dose is always adviced so that, adverse and serious averse reaction can be avoided.
Specially potentized medicine: Homoeopathy uses specially energized / potentized medicines which are done in a special manner to make it more potent.
Specially designed plan for treatment of chronic disease: Chronic diseases are not weighed in a same scale like acute diseases. They are someway different from acute diseases in the manner of long continued suffering without any hope of self cure even with utmost change in habits and lifestyles. Owing to its deep rooted nature, some deep acting medicines are prescribed following a special process.
True and real consideration of life, health and disease: Homoeopathy considers fundamental immaterial basis of life. Some energy (vital force) is considered as real spirit of life which is responsible for all other functioning of life. Inter conversion between health and disease is possible because of this inherent energy. Both health and diseases are different qualitative state of life. Nature of this energy is spiritual (immaterial), qualitative and dynamic. Homoeopathic medicines act on this central force to cure the organism
Are there any stringent restrictions on diet and lifestyle to be followed during homoeopathic treatment?
No. No such stringent restrictions are required during homoeopathic treatment. Restrictions imposed are mainly because of two factors; one is as per requirement of disease condition and another as per medicine. The food and lifestyle which are detrimental for health owing to disease state are to be avoided. It is same for all kind of treatment. Secondly for homoeopathic treatment, few things are to be avoided which are thought to neutralise delicate action of homoeopathic medicines like raw onion, raw garlic, strong aromatic substances etc. You should be clarified from your physician regarding the actual restrictions required for you at a particular point of time.
Whether medicines of any other system can be continued along with homoeopathic medicines or not?
Yes, such medicines can be continued in most of the occasions, however opinion of teating physian may be asked before taking both the treatment simultaneously.
Whether homoeopathic medicines can be taken during pregnancy or not?
Yes, most of the homoeopatic medicines can be taken during pregnancy except very few owing to the minuteness of doses and having no adverse reaction upon the health of mother or child. If you are pregnant, you should inform it to your treating homoeopath.
Whether homoeopathic medicines dispensed in globule (sweet pills) form can be taken by Diabetic patients?
Yes, it can be taken by diabetic patients as the sugar content of few globules is much less in quantity in comparison to dietary intakes. 4 or 6 pills taken at a time contain only few milligrams of sugar. However in case of uncontrolled and severe diabetes mellitus, homoeopathic medicines can also be taken in distilled water form also.
Can homoeopathic treatment be used in terminal illnesses?
Yes, homoeopathic treatment is quite effective in such illnesses as a palliative measure like pain management in cancer, management of other acute conditions in various incurable cases like Cirrhosis of Liver, Chronic Kidney Disease, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease etc.
Can homoeopathic treatment be extended towards unconscious patients, infants or those who cannot take medicines by mouth?
Yes, unconscious patients can be given medicines through inhalation or olfaction method. External rubbing on skin may also help. Infants can be given homoeopathic medicines either directly in small globule form or with distilled water or with mother’s milk.
Whether any Research work is going on in homoeopathy or not?
Yes, Research activities are constantly going on in homoeopathy under the auspices of ‘Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy’, under Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India. This council is conducting various fundamental, clinical, literary research works either independently or in association with many national and international research organisations like IIT, AIIMS, ICMR etc. New drugs are being developed, old drugs are being reproved and clinical verification are also going on at so many centres all over the country. Besides, research works are also conducted by various teaching institutions, private organisations. To promote research works along with teaching among the Undergraduate students, CCRH has a scholarship scheme like ‘Short Term Studentship in Homoeopathy’ (STSH) in which selected research works are awarded. One peer reviewed journal titled ‘Indian Journal of research in Homoeopathy’ (IJRH) is being published regularly by CCRH. Besides, there are so many indexed and peer reviewed journals are also published in homoeopathy.
Some people claim that homoeopathy is not a scientific treatment. Is it true?
Not at all, Homoeopathy is a scientific method of treatment because of following reasons those are dealt in homoeopathy.
Medicines are selected through a scientific and mathematical process called Repertorisation, not on personal bias.
All the scientific tools, modern devices available for diagnosis and prognosis of a case along with all pathological investigations are also used in homoeopathic practice for the same purpose to make the treatment a standard one.
All the scientific methods, procedures followed for general management, diet and life style, ancillary and supportive methods like physiotherapy etc are also used by homoeopathic practitioners.
All homoeopathic medicines are prepared following strict scientific procedure, mathematical disposition, precise method and accurate calculations along with strict quality control as per the guidelines of Drugs and Cosmetic Act, Drug Rules and Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia of Govt. of India etc.
Only point some people raise is that, there is no physical existence of drug substances in the final products because of ultra dilutions. It may be mentioned here that, it is the duty of Physicist to find out the substance present in homoeopathic medicine responsible for cure or relief. It is beyond the scope of homoeopath to find this out in a scientific manner. It requires high order of thinking, scientific acumen and determination in part of a physicist. However Nano particles of base drugs are traced in some of the homoeopathic medicines through research works conducted by IIT, Mumbai and IIT, New Delhi. In future important observations relating to homoeopathic medicines may be revealed after development in Quantum Physics.
Standard Treatment Protocols are also available for many diseases.
